Adwoa Aboah, The Gurls Talk Podcast

Let’s talk... about “Gurls Talk”, created by the amazing Adwoa Aboa. She describes herself as an activist first and a model second. Inspired by her own battles with depression and addiction, she founded Gurls Talk, a digital community for young women as a safe space to share and listen without any judgement or stigma.

It all started in 2015 as an IG account, and has grown into a weekly podcast and event series that brings women and girls together from across London, LA and Warsaw.

Although today I’m recommending that you go ahead and listen to the podcast, Gurls Talks is way more than the podcast: it’s a movement.

'GurlsTalk empowers us to be honest. We challenge stereotypes. We fight inequality. And, together, we change the world around us.' - Adwoa Aboah

Featuring a different guests, each episode of podcast follows roughly follows the same format as they talk, share, listen and take control of their lives. The practical advice on what we can do as a community to make a difference makes each listen an opportunity for growth and an opportunity to make a positive change.

Among some of my faves featured on the podcast are Sinéad Burke who talks about inclusive design, Amika George on ending period poverty and the legend Serena Williams on her determination to win, the importance of having plans and goals, and standing up for yourself in life and on court.
