THE PRODUCTIVITY EDIT

This month we are investigating productivity, how the obsession with it has evolved through the pandemic and discovering ways we can analyse our own relationship with it for a healthier outlook. Scroll down to meet June’s Yes Listers.

LETS TALK ABOUT PRODUCTIFFANY

Tiffany Ferguson’s #InternetAnalysis video series is a great place to start unpacking why we are so obsessed with productivity, particularly during this pandemic. Tiffany asks the questions:

  • ‘how do we strike a balance between productivity and relaxation?’

  • ‘why is productivity so important?’

  • ‘why do we feel obligated to be as productive as possible?’

HOW ARE YOU FEELING NOW?

For Charli XCX ‘staying positive goes hand in hand with being creative.’ Finding herself in lockdown Charli threw herself into writing, producing and releasing her new album how i’m feeling now.

Charli kept her creative process transparent and online which gives us an insight into what it’s like to create an album in six weeks… Exhilarating? Exhausting? We’ll let you make up your own mind.

HOW TO DO NOTHING

In How to Do Nothing, Resisting the Attention Economy Jenny Odell argues for ‘the right to do nothing in the age of everything’.

Despite the title, Odell doesn’t advocate for giving up, but rather that ‘refusing productivity and stopping to listen - entails an active process of listening that seeks out the affects of racial, environmental and economic injustice and brings about real change’.
